Activities
We have had a busy 2 months. We have had a Biathlon where we ran and biked. We have started Milk in Schools. It is yummy. The whole school went in the Kapa Haka festival. It was fun when we went to Beach Education. We all loved swimming in the sea and playing in the sand on the beach. We have been talking about Pay it Forward in Inquiry. Room 2 have been helping our whanau by being nice and doing things for them. We had an awesome Disco with Funkman. Our Christmas party in Room 2 was the best fun. We played games and had presents and lots of yummy party food. Khani won the pass the parcel. Miharo is fun. Miharo is awesome. ( Mrs Bennett)

l loved the Disco and the Beach Education. It was fun swimming in the sea. I was on a surf board. I liked the Room 2 Xmas party best. We had lots of yummy food and a present too. (Khan)

Learning apps on the ipads
I used the new dinosaur app. I pretended that the dinosaur was going to eat me. Anahera took the photo and I lay on the floor by Mrs Bennett's desk. It was fun. (Khan)
MInecraft great for developing geometry, spatial awareness, social skills, oral language skills and its fun ( Mrs Bennett) I like building my own house with everything in it and a city too. I built a forest and a pool and flowers in my garden. Inside my house I have a TV and a bed and food and a book case with books in it.(Khan)
PMP
We have Diane come and take PMP with us. She is from Flax Rock. We have fun and learn lots of different ways to move with our bodies. We get fit too. I like balancing things best.
Preschool Tuakana- teina
We love to have the Preschool visit us . They have a story with us and we play together. We help them with things and show them where things are. They like coming to see us all in Room 2 as well.
Ronald McDonald
Ronald McDonald came to talk to us about road safety. We knew the song about Stop Look and Listen as we had learnt that in class with Mrs Bennett. Ronald McDonald was funny. He lost his sock . We had to help him find it. He made Mrs Bennett disappear and then come back again but she was really just behind the screen. She jumped out and gave us a surprise. I laughed at Ronald McDonald and Mrs Bennett.

Prizegiving
Khan won the academic award at the end of Term Three awards assembly. He has made every good progress in all areas and tries hard. He has caught up a lot this year in his reading and mathematics. He has progressed 9 levels in reading this year ( Mrs Bennett)
Inquiry Keynote presentation.
I talked to the whole school about the 1980's and the movies that they had then. It was a keynote. I have seen ET, Ghostbusters and The terminator. ( Khan) As a class we learnt about the 1980's and used google search engine to find out about clothes, games, computers and movies. We made a keynote presentation which we presented as reporting back to the school. ( Mrs Bennett)

Dynamo Dukebox
I was the leader in Dancing in the street. I didn't want to dance in front of people. I only went to the one in the afternoon. ( Khan)
The tamariki were amazing. They danced and sang their way through nearly an hour of music from the 1970's, 1980's and 1990's. Even the teachers line danced to Achy Breaky Heart and were zombies toMichael Jackson's Thriller. Miharo Roll n Rolled to music from the 1980's. They did I love Rock and Roll. The lion Sleeps Tonight and Dancing in the Street. What a wonderful performance. ( Mrs Bennett)

Me and Shontae
We had lots of fun at the Disco. I liked all the music. I had finger glow lights. We danced and had games and competitions. We got chocolate and lollies We also had a sausage and a drink.

Minecraft ( Lego Building)
I made a house in Minecraft. I was learning to build all sorts of things like a bed and a bookcase and windows and a house with a chimney and a roof. Mrs Bennett videoed me and I told her all about what I had made and showed her round. I think my house and all the other things I built were cool. (Khan) Khan showed an interest in Minecraft. I had seen it at an Educamp day and saw how it taught children matching and colour skills as well as pattern and building skills with lego type blocks. I let him try it one wet lunchtime. After about 3 turns he had discovered how to manipulate and control the pieces and build not only a house with all the furniture, but a landscape and a dog kennel and a survival tunnel. He used his imagination and was able to develop ipad and problem solving skills through experimentation. He is developing his confidence and is able to show skills to other children and show them how to do things now. I assisted him by allowing him the opportunity to develop his interest and practise and apply it. ( Mrs Bennett).

Matariki 1/7/13- 5/7/13
We had an amazing Matariki week at Riverslea school. We started Monday with a Dawn tree planting ceremony and whanau, school breakfast. Tuesday we had a Hakinakina sports day of Maori games with Bridge Pa school. That was lots of fun. Wednesday we helped prepare for the Hangi on Thursday. Thursday we had a huge Matariki festival at the school. The children were amazing with our Kapa Haka and there was a hangi, lots of stalls and other schools and people and whanau visiting. We had Irongate, Whare Tapere, the Line Dancers, Karamu and singers and dancers. Waata was an amazing DJ with the Funkman and PK in charge of music and coordination, sound etc. The hangi was a highlight with 6-8 Dads, Koros and whanau helping out, as well as whanau such as Roberta and Karina with serving. Other whanau helped behind the scenes with all the activities, sausage sizzle for the performers etc. What am amazing successful week. Ka mau te wihi ( Mrs Bennett).

l liked all the ramps at Sk8zone. I went down lots of them. I wrote a story about some of it and did a video.(Khan) I got Khan to do a writing sample ( for moderation) on Sk8zone. He enjoyed sharing his ideas and reading the story to me. I videoed him and he shared more ideas orally. I supported him by asking questions to extend his thinking and develop his ideas further. Two sentences on the video were-"I went down the big ramp and I did a flip into the fluff." 'I liked going down the slippery ramp." The writing sample and video are above (Mrs Bennett)

Participating and Contributing- Inside Games.
I am learning how to play Minecraft, a lego building game on the ipad. Mrs Bennett showed us how to play. (Khan) I showed Lena and Khan how to play Minecraft. I then played a game with them to reinforce the skills learnt. They were then able to play several games together independently participating and contributing. They became more much competent at it than I was. ( Mrs Bennett)

Town Library
21/5/13
I like reading books at the library. Mrs Bennett also read books to us and so did Miss McGrail and Mrs Donaldson.(Khan) Khan enjoyed looking through all the books in the children's section at the library. This visit showed him the books available at the library and he enjoyed listening to the books that I read. He also enjoyed sitting down quietly reading with his friend Mohaka. ( Mrs Bennett)
Maths learning
I am learning to tell the time.I can do o'clock and match the numbers to the clock. ( Khan) I showed Khan how to use the learning app on the ipad the first time. He can now read o'clock and match the numbers below with those on the clock. Next I will show him how to do half past. ( Mrs Bennett)
Turangawaewae
I got videoed by Mrs Bennett. I talked about what we had learnt about in Inquiry. It was Turangawaewae and that means our place to stand. I liked taking all the photos on the ipad around the school ( Khan). I led and guided an Inquiry about Turangawaewae. Khan was able to talk about what we did and found out and where to next. He can ask and answer questions about the Inquiry and also think about and develop ideas associated with Turangawaewae. ( Mrs Bennett)

End of T1 Prizegiving
Khan got an award at end of Term 1 assembly for improvement. He had worked hard all term and made lots of steps forward in his learning. He increased in all areas.Khan improved 4 levels in reading and moved up a group. He also improved a lot in his maths,spelling, inquiry and story writing.( Mrs Bennett)
Flax Rock
Khan was not keen to climb the wall at Flax Rock. With some support and cheering on he climbed a little way up. Later on he went higher but I was unable to take a photo as I was holding support ropes for another child. I will make sure he is in my group next time so that I can support and encourage him more ( Mrs Bennett)

I like the Autopilot book cause I learn lots of new things. I like pointing on the board and choosing other people to have turns too.( Khan) I try to give Khan activities to boost his self confidence. He likes leading the Autopilot and is learning all the concepts in it. (Mrs Bennett)

Little Speller and Spelling Bug.
Khan islearning to spell lots of 3 and 4 lettered words on the Spelling apps Little Speller and Spelling Bug. " I am getting good at spelling words. I can spell police and pirates all by myself now." ( Khan) I showed him how to use the learning apps.He does not need support with them now. He really enjoys using them and is transferring the learning over to his story writing.( Mrs Bennett)
Book Creator
I made a Book Creator called 'The Train' with Maiti. It was in Discovery time. We did a scene and people and things like trains and signs in it. We also talked and wrote words. I like trains. I will do it about something else next time.( Khan) I showed Maiti and Khan how to use the learning app. I monitored them and was there to support them when they needed any help. They did a great job. ( Mrs Bennett)

Swimming
I don't like putting my head under the water . I can kick with the flutter board but only a little way. I can try and will get better if I keep trying.( Khan) I vidoed Khan and showed him what he could do. I then taught him skills with kicking and the flutterboard in the pool. By giving him support and tuition he increased both his confidnce and swimming skills in that area. ( Mrs Bennett)
My Goals for 2013
I want to learn to write lots of words. I am learning to do this with the ipad.

The Bike Track
I can go all around the bike track. I am still a bit wobbly on the BMX track but I will get better cause I like it.( Khan) I supported Khan and encouraged him to go round the BMX track and on the PUMP track both in class fitness time and at playtimes and lunchtimes. He gradually got more confidence and took risks. In the end he was suceessful and can go both around the BMX track and PUMP track ( Mrs Bennett)
